Definition: Deep brain stimulation is a surgical procedure that implants electrodes in parts of the brain, typically in or near the basal ganglia, so that those brain regions can be stimulated to help control movement. The electrodes are controlled through a battery-operated device known as an implanted pulse generator (IPG) or pacemaker.
