Definition: These are the mundane activities we perform each day (e.g., dressing, bathing, cooking, paying bills, eating, toileting, shopping, walking from one room to another, talking with others, leisure activities etc). If a person can perform daily ADLs without assistance, then they are independent. Some measurement scales rank the severity of a person's disease according to how well a person can perform these ADLs.
Also Known As: Activities of daily living can be shortened to ADL's.
